The greenhouse which takes part in the scope of “Emergency Support Project Towards Crop Production of Syrian Refuges In The Temporary Housing Center Of Osmaniye” opening has been conducted. The project has been carried out in cooperation with Food and Agriculture Organization of United Nations and Oil Seed Research Institute. Within the scope of the project, the 8000 square meter greenhouse was funded by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization and built as the largest vegetable greenhouse in Osmaniye.
The greenhouse consists of 15 compartments and the production is done under compressed natural gas heated conditions. Syrian refugee trainees receive theoretical and practical training in the greenhouse production. For this purpose, technical personnel have been assigned from the Directorate of Oil Seeds Research Institute to supervise. Tomato, cucumber, pepper, eggplant production is made in the greenhouse. The trainees are trained to learn how to grow vegetables at the end of the project. Trainees are gaining new talents they need for skilled jobs in the agriculture sector , and the vegetable yield is being distributed free of charge throughout the refugee camp to improve nutrition and food security.
Governor Ömer Faruk Coşkun, Garrison Commander of Artillery Colonel Emin Yılmaz Sancaktar Deputy Governor Metin Esen, Toprakkale Governor Ali Yıldırım, Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Gendarmerie Colonel Tamer Bilacan, the Provincial General Assembly President Mehmet Altun, FAO Central Asia Sub-Regional Coordinator and the FAO Representative in Turkey Viorel Gutu, Deputy General Director of Agricultural Research and Policies İhsan Emiralioğlu, provincial directorates, trainees and their families participated in the organization of opening ceremony of the greenhouse near the Temporary Housing Center in Cevdetiye.
After the opening speeches, upon completion of their training, refugees were awarded certifications which were given by the protocol participants. Finally, the program ended with a visit to the greenhouse by the participants.
